Camping Log

Boulder River Trail

Boulder River Trail

Our February outing took us to Boulder River Trail.  The hike to the campground was an easy 1.5 miles.  This was such a relief since we were carrying our backpacks this time and for many of us, this was our first backpacking trip ever!  After we arrived to out campsite, we set out our tents and proceeded to take all precautions against any potential rain.  The obligatory tarp cover was immediately set over the tents to give us some protection.

After we were done setting up camp. We proceeded to hike to the end of the trails with just our water bottles and some snacks.  The trail continued to climb at a moderate pace for the next 2.5 miles.  On the way we were able to view some water falls, and old growth trees.  On the trails we had to go over mud, rocks, streams, and downed trees making the journey a little more challenging.

Many of us had a chance to fulfill our map and compass and our grubmasterrequirements.  The weather held up nicely with just a few sprinkles during the day. Occasionally we were able to see a patch of blue sky here and there.

During the night, however, the rain started to come down.  Good thing we were prepared with our tarps.  Even the scouts who opted to sleep in hammocks managed to stay dry.

The next morning, we packed everything right after breakfast. Again no rain while we cook and eat. But the rain started again once we were in the vehicles driving back.  All in all, this was a good trip with an opportunity to try out our equipment and stay fit for the outdoors.
